Inscription. Cold Springs Cemetery. Jesse Hawley, who first advocated building Erie Canal in 1805, is buried here. Friend of DeWitt Clinton.

2. Northward View Cold Springs Cemetery Marker
The marker is north of the cemetery gate. The bridge beyond the marker is over The Falls Road Railroad. The road then continues to drop down the Niagara Escarpment to the Erie Canal at the Widewaters Marina.
On the National Register of Historic Places. Hawley Street in Lockport, probably named after Jesse Hawley, is the location of the Niagara County Courthouse.
