Inscription. John Humphrey found gold in Manhattan Canyon, April 1, 1905. The discovery led to the town of Manhattan later that year.
 
Erected 1985 by Central Nevada Historical Society.
 
Location. 38° 32.253′ N, 117° 5.86′ W. Marker is near Manhattan, Nevada, in Nye County. Marker can be reached from Highway 377. Click for map. The marker is located in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery on the south side of Highway 377, just west of Manhattan. Marker is in this post office area: Manhattan NV 89022, United States of America.
