Friar Bartolomé de las Casas
First Vicar of the Convent of Santo Domingo of this metropolis and second Bishop of Chiapas. Most distinguished gentleman, he was the first author of Antigua Guatemala. Defender of the Indians. He wrote: 1a Apologética Historica de las Calidades de las gentes de las Yndias, 2a Historia general de las Yndias 3a De la Destrucción de las Yndias. 4a De Unico Vocationis Modo and many other works which are lost to history. He was born in 1474 and died in 1566 at 92 years of age, in the Convent of Our Lady of Atocha,
