From this site and from other places along the Niagara River escaping slaves were conducted across the boundary from the United States to freedom in Canada.
 
Erected 1996 by Harriet Tubman 300's Club, Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society.
 
Location. 42° 54.908′ N, 78° 54.174′ W. Marker is in Buffalo, New York, in Erie County. Marker is at the intersection of Robert Rich Way and Ferry Street Bridge, on the right when traveling south on Robert Rich Way. Click for map. Marker is on Unity Island (nee Squaw Island) on the south part of the Island in Broderick Park. Marker is in this post office area: Buffalo NY 14213, United States of America.
