Preparation of candidates for the priesthood quickly became a major task, to meet the needs of the Church on the frontier. The Blue House, built in 1842, was the community’s home. The parish was organized in 1842. The first church, 1844, stood at the southwest corner of God’s Acre. The first grave was there opened in that year.
