1. Kungsgatan Marker
Inscription.   Brunkebergsåsen delade länge city i två delar. För att förena dem bröts Kungsgatan fram i början av 1900-talet för att invigas 1911. Under mellankrigstiden blev den stadens ledande affärs- och nöjesgata. Med sina biografer, modemedvetna butiker och de två ”skyskraporna” blev gatan också den moderna kontorstadens sinnebild. Det enhetliga arkitektoniska arkadmotivet längs gatans östra del – efter en idé av arkitekten Sven Wallander – bidrog till elegansen.

Central Stockholm was formerly divided into two sections by the Brunkeberg moraine. Kungsgatan was excavated in the early 20th century to link up the two neighbourhoods. With its elegant façades and twin “skyscrapers” Kungsgatan became Stockholm’s leading shopping street between the world wars, with fashionable stores, cinemas and cafés.
