St. Luke's Episcopal Church. . Just south on Fitzhugh Street, behind you, stands the oldest existing church building in the city, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1824. It was designed by noted New York architect Josiah Brady and was built from rough gray limestone. The window and door trim are made from Red Medina Sandstone. The church was furnished with the first organ and church bell in the village. The Erie Canal passed just south of the church, along what is now Broad Street. The first services in the stone church were held in September, 1825. In 1988, two congregations merged to become the Church of St. Luke and St. Simon Cyrene. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
