Working Together. Forest Home Farms Historic Park. Animals were an essential part of the ranches and farms of the last century. Horse were especially important to farm life, for they provided transportation, pulled plows, and other farm equipment, hauled cargo, and even powered machines that did jobs such as baling hay. The Boones also raised hogs and cattle for food, tended sheep, and kept chickens., ”…we had a few chickens, but they didn’t pen them up, they ran all over the place… Father Boone [Numa Boone] had 80 hogs and I’ve forgotten how many sheep, but he had a lot of sheep.” , - Ruth Quayle Boone, …and then there was the milk barn [1850s barn] …That’s the really old barn…with the old wide boards on it…That’s were the cows were kept and that’s where they’d milk the cows. My brother and me, we used to help milk the cows for them…” , - Robert Wing, who lived and worked at Forest Home Farms from 1933 – 1940., Forest Home Farm Historic Park is on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources, The City of San Ramon encourages our residents to enjoy this beautiful park in celebration of our historic past.
