Excerpt (in translation): The building was built in 1647 for merchant and councilor Helge Bertelsen.(Submitted on August 18, 2023.)
The state bought the building in 1843 and leased the house facing the street to the municipality, which housed the city's administration here until 1870. Hence the name Magistratgården. In the side and rear building, 11 prison cells were furnished to remedy the lack of space for the police station at Rådhusgaten 7, which was the nearest neighbor around the street corner. During that period, the wall between the building was provided with a gate. In 1871-79 the Deichman Library was located in a back building.
In 1870, the property was bought by wholesaler Øwre, who ran a grain and fish business here.
