A sea-going Rifleman Doug served with the Marine Detachment aboard the Mississippi, formerly battleship re-outdated and classified as a Gunnery Training Ship, and the Valley Forge, an Antisubmarine Warfare Support Carrier. Prior to his discharge and transfer back to the Reserve he served with HQAHQSQ Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC.
