Inscription. This was the general site of the "old nursery," where Jefferson grafted and sowed the seed of special garden plants. He propagated thirteen kinds of shrubs, forty—one species of ornamental trees, twenty—six vegetable varieties, six kinds of grasses, eleven nut trees, and fifty—three fruit tree varieties in the Monticello nurseries.
