1. Rowan Oak Marker

Inscription. Built c. 1848. From 1930 to 1962 home of novelist William Faulkner, who named it for the rowan tree, symbol of security and peace. Now maintained as a literary landmark by the University of Mississippi.

Erected 1988 by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.

Regarding Rowan Oak. The property and grounds at Rowan Oak are open year round, from dawn to dusk. While there’s no fee to visit the grounds, there is a $5 cost for house admission. There is very limited parking and the space is tight.
