In 1812 Post and Bartlet Hinds deeded to this county ten acres for public buildings. In 1996 this site and everything within was placed on the register through the efforts of the Society for the Preservation of Montrose. Of note are the courthouse, 1854; the first jail, 1853; and the second jail, 1867.
