Regarding Tribute to the Battle of Puebla. This marker remembers the amazing Mexican victory over the French at Puebla on May 5, 1862. After this humiliating defeat the French eventually went on to capture Mexico City and most of the country, installing Maximilian of Habsburg as Emperor of Mexico. However, with France removing its troops in 1866, Benito Juárez and the Republican forces were able to retake the country. Maximilian was executed in Querétaro on June 19, 1867, putting a definitive end to the "French Adventure" in Mexico.
