Regarding General Mariano Escobedo. General Mariano Antonio Guadalupe Escobedo de la Peña (b. San Pablo de los Labradores, Nuevo León, January 16, 1826 - d. Mexico City, May 22, 1902) was a prominent Mexican military man who fought during the Mexican-American War, the Reform Wars and the Second French Intervention against the imperial army of Maximilian. He is probably most famous for accepting Maximilian's surrender at the end of the siege of Querétaro in 1867. He was a politician of liberal ideology, was governor of San Luis Potosí and Nuevo León. He was senator and Minister of War during the presidential period of Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada.
