September 18-19, 1863.
Hood's Division, - Brigadier General Evander McIver Law.
Johnson's Division, - Brigadier General Bushrod R. Johnson.
These two Divisions under command of General Johnson preceded by a small force of Forrest's Cavalry, forced a crossing of the Chickamauga at Reed's Bridge at 3 p.m. of the 18th. At 4 p.m. General Hood arrived from Ringgold and assumed command, advancing to this position via Jay's Mill and bivouacking for the night, having skirmished sharply first with Minty's Brigade of cavalry and then with Wilder's Brigade of mounted infantry and part of Dick's infantry brigade. Early on the 19th the divisions were reorganized by placing the brigades of Robertson, Law and Benning, under Law, and the brigades of Johnson, McNair and Gregg, under Johnson.

In locating this tablet I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
