The Brigade advanced, at 8 a.m., from its bivouac immediately west of the Dyer house, and took position as the reserve of Brannan's Division.
Soon after 10 a.m. the Brigade was ordered to proceed in haste to the assistance of General Baird's line north and east of the Kelly field.
At the same time the Battery was ordered to the Snodgrass house where it remained in action until the close of the battle. The Brigade, facing north, marched rapidly in two lines deployed, two regiments in each line, gradually swinging around until it entered the Kelly field with its lines parallel to the LaFayette road. Here it was attacked in flank at close quarters by Adams' and Stovall's Brigades of Breckinridge's Division which had passed around the Union left and gained its rear.
