John Abbot lies buried in this woodland cemetery because of his love of nature and his long friendship with the McElveen family.

Location. 32° 19.068′ N, 81° 36.048′ W. Marker is near Arcola, Georgia, in Bulloch County. Marker is on McElveen Kendrick Pond Road (County Route 358) 0.2 miles east of McElveen Cemetery Road (County Route 357), on the left when traveling east. McElveen Cemetery Road runs east from an intersection with Arcola Road (County Road 582). There is a Georgia Historical Marker for John Abbot at that intersection. Touch for map. Regarding John Abbot 1751 - 1840. Another Georgia Historical Commission marker titled "John Abbot," located about 50 miles away in Screven County, states that Abbot is buried nearby in an unmarked grave. Historians today generally consider that information to be incorrect.
