1. King's Landing 1796 Marker
Inscription.
King's Landing
1796
First white settlement and lake port
west of the Genesee River.

Founded by Gideon King and Zadock Granger,
Revolutionary soldiers, five log houses and
a blacksmith shop were erected nearby on
Landing Road with a warehouse and wharf on
the river below. In 1798 a forty ton schooner
was built and used in lake trade. Many of
the original settlers died of Genesee Fever
and lie buried in King's Landing Cemetery.

 
Erected 1959 by Society for the Preservation of Landmarks in Western New York.
