During the preservation work by the NY State Pavilion Project, several artifacts were discovered that tell the building’s history and construction. On display here are a few items.

The roofs of the observation decks were constructed of translucent fiberglass panels supported by an aluminum grid of I-beams with interlocking pieces creating a brick pattern. The panels were adhered with a black tar like adhesive. These remnants of the beams and roof panels show the contact points of these two materials with some remaining dried adhesive.

Throughout the pavilion lollypop lighting stations followed the circular motif common to Philip Johnson’s design for the pavilion. They illuminated the large entrance sign as well as the artwork on the Theaterama. The top half of one such luminaire is displayed here. John Piro of the painting crew is pictured re-installing one of the luminaire tops which is on the Mezzanine to the right of the escalator.
