Meeting House. 1840 . Charlotte, Vermont. Charlotte Meeting House was built by the community's Methodist congregation. The building's architectural details reflect Greek design influences, including the triangular pediment created by cornice moldings. During the building's 112-year history it served as a church, a theatrical playhouse, and the town's library, before suffering damage during a windstorm in 1950. Charlotte residents then voted to sell the Meeting House to the Museum to preserve the structure. As a part of the restoration, the Museum introduced trompe l'œil ("deceives the eye") interior painting details that mimic paneled woodwork. The building features a music installation Green Mountain Medley: 200 Years of Music Made in Vermont.
