Lieut. F.W. Merrin
The company, under Capt. Jacob Culbertson, was engaged in the battle of Champion Hill, May 16,attached to Loring's division. At the close of that battle one section, under Capt. Culbertson, moved to Crystal Springs with its division. The other section, under Lieut. F. W. Merrin, fell back with the army to Vicksburg and probably served two 6-pounder guns on the line of Cumming's brigade in undetermined positions from the morning of May 19 to the end of the defense, July 4, 1863. Reported casualties in battalion during the defense, wounded 3.
