Air Products, founded in 1940, revolutionized the supply of industrial gases on the novel concept of building a plant next to a steel mill and piping oxygen directly to the customer. That transformative idea was reflected in the "A" of Air Products' original logo, drawn from the alchemist's symbol for air—one of alchemy's classical elements of earth, air, fire and water. Alchemy, an ancient form of chemistry and metallurgy, was about discovering methods for changing base metals into gold, in essence, transforming a substance of little value into one of great worth. SteelStacks has done the same in transforming an historic steel mill into a magical space for the celebration of the arts, culture and community.
