Regarding Site of Constitutional Oak. In 1902 Connecticut held a convention in Hartford to consider updating the State Constitution. Delegates from all 168 towns attended. Connecticut US Senator Joseph R. Hawley arranged for the US Department of Agriculture to provide a Pin Oak seedling to each of the delegates to commemorate the experience. The little trees were planted on town greens, school yards, church yards and, in many cases, the delegate's own property. Only a few have markers.
