The Feld House
The Feld House is one of the most architecturally significant residences of early 20th Century in Mississippi. The home was constructed in 1913 by Hannah B. Fishell, widow of Alfred Fishell, a prominent Vicksburg businessman. Furniture store owners Maurice and Juliet Feld purchased the home in 1929 and their name has stayed with the home ever since.

The Carriage Step
The carriage step in front of the house has B.W. Griffith's (1851-1931) name on it. The step was used to help ladies step up into carriages. Griffith was the mayor of Vicksburg from 1905 to 1909 and the president of First National Bank.

Gold Medal Flour
Cadwallader Washburn, a Union major general, was stationed at Vicksburg during the siege. After the Civil War he started a grain milling company. He entered his flour in the international millers' competition and won the "Gold Medal". Washburn renamed his flour "Gold Medal Flour" which is still being sold today. After selling the Washburn, Crosby Milling Company, which later became General Mills, he was elected Governor of Wisconsin in 1872.

Interesting Fact:
47 men who served in Vicksburg during the Civil War were later elected to serve as governors in 27 different states!
