Inscription.
Inventor of the early typewriter—the pterotye. Born in 1831, Union Dist., S.C., died in 1905, grave 2 miles west. While registered in chancery and later editor of the National Democrat near this siteabout 1860, developed his first writing machine for which he did not receive adequate credit due to the Civil War.
