British Legion
erected this plaque to perpetuate the memories of men of the 17th British Regiment of Foot who died near this spot defending the Stony Point fortification against General Wayne’s American Light Infantry on the night of July 15/16, 1779.

“They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn at the going down of the sun and in the morning we shall remember them.”
1779 – 1956
