in 1969, Overton Square's founders--James D. Robinson, Jr., Ben Woodson, Charles H. Hull, Jr., and Frank Doggrell, III- developed T.G.I Friday's which became the first establishment in the city to sell alcohol by the drink.

The restaurant became an overwhelming success and evolved into over 20 restaurants, shops, an ice skating rink, and season celebrations. Memphians flocked to the area for entertainment in the heart of midtown.
