Howard Bank Building
1902
---------
This granite-faced brick building, designed and built by Hiram Salls, is a fine example of Renaissance Revival Classicism. Constructed for the Howard National Bank it replaced a smaller, c.1867 bank building. Upon its construction, it was praised for its beauty and modern facilities, as its grandness and elegance were designed to attract customers and evoke a sense of security The building was enlarged to the north in 1942, and in 1958, the Howard Bank built and moved to an even more modern building at the corner of Main and St. Paul Streets.
