1. Indiana’s First Interurban Marker

Inscription. Charles L. Henry’s Union Traction Company, the first electric rail line specifically designed for interurban service, began operating through here on January 1, 1898. It ran from Alexandria to Anderson. Indiana became the traction center of the United States.

Erected 1966 by Indiana Sesquicentennial Commission. (Marker Number 48.1967.1.)
