The Family Coat of Arms of Thomas Newland Allen
Hampton Court Bridge was opened in 1866,
at the expense of Thomas Newland Allen
a local man who lived at Hampton on the Middlesex Bank.

Originally a toll bridge allowing Mr Allen to recoup his outlay,
It was bought by the Metropolitan Board of Works in 1876
and the toll was lifted, amidst loud cheering.

The National Anthem was played by the band of the 3d Surrey Militia
and celebrated by a firework display on Hampton Court Green.
