1. The Center School Marker
Inscription. Built in 1852 on the site of the town's original Meeting House, the Center School helped Sturbridge consolidate its outlying one-room district schools. It continued as a site for elementary education until the 1950s, when the present Burgess Elementary School was constructed. From that time until 1988, the Center School housed many town offices, including the Sturbridge Police Department. The adjacent Old Burying Ground was the town's first cemetery, and is the final resting place for many of the original settlers, including Experiance Deneson Wheelock, "the first Childe Born in this Town."

Erected by the Town of Sturbridge.
