1. Mose Hampton 1808-1885 Marker
Inscription. Mose Hampton bought his freedom prior to the Civil War. He was a builder, assisted in laying out and surveying the town of Centre, a minister in the Episcopal Methodist North, and an inventor. Mr. Hampton owned land in the vicinity of this marker on both sides of US Highway 411. The site for Cedar Hill UMC, in Leesburg was chosen by Mose Hampton in the early 1800's. He was an honorary member of this church until his death.
