1. Overshot Mucker Marker
Inscription. The overshot mucker was a rail-mounted, rock excavation machine, operated by compressed air. This mucker was used to scoop up blasted, broken rock and throw it overhead into an ore car positioned behind the mucker. As the mucker advanced the mining crews slid rails into the broken rock until the pile of rock was removed. Then, the rails were properly installed and the mining cycle (drilling, blasting, mucking and bolting) began again.

The pre-existing Portland Mining Company, Clinton Mining Company and American Eagle Mining Company incorporated under the Trojan Mining Company in 1911. This company operated approximately 3-4 miles west of Lead and was the consolidation of many smaller mines. The company purchased the Two Johns Mine and also leased the Republican Mine. After the company purchased the Ofer Mining Company, it gained control of the majority of gold mining operations in the Bald Mountain Mining District.

In 1928 the Trojan Mining Company was bought out by the Bald Mountain Mining Company.

Erected by Black Hills Mining Museum.
