1. Clearwater River Marker
Caption: (lower left) In the late 1800s steamboats brought tourists to visit the Nez Perce country.
Inscription. For thousands of years the river scene at this village site hardly changed. The stream was full of fish, served as a trade route for neighboring tribes, and attracted wildlife to this green corridor.
While the river fostered a life of bounty and a sense of homeland, it also became a conduit for change -- Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery in 1805, gold miners in the 1860s, and tourists in the 1880s -- altering the meaning of the river forever.

The tribes aways treated water as a medicine because it nourishes life... Levi Holt
