6. Washington Confederate Cemetery Burials Marker
Many of the over 2000 Confederates buried in the cemetery were re-internments from smaller cemeteries around Washington County, Maryland. These were the casualties of fighting in the battles of South Mountain and Antietam, with some associated with the Confederate retreat from Gettysburg.
