1. DeJean House Marker

Inscription. Built in 1906 by Ambrose Linder for Valsin Pierre DeJean and his new wife, May Mundy, the DeJean house is one of the few remaining Queen Anne cottages in Pascagoula. The home features the original cast iron fence and many original interior features.

Valsin DeJean owned and operated his family business which was located on nearby Krebs Avenue. Founded by his father, the name of the business was DeJean and Mitchell General Mercantile and Ship Chandlery. It was one of the largest businesses developed in this bustling Pascagoula district which was both commercial and residential. Valsin DeJean also served as the City of Pascagoula's Commissioner of Finance from 1919 to 1940 and 1945 to 1953.

Included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 largely through the efforts of a daughter, Julia-Mae DeJean, the house remains property of the DeJean family.
