Inscription.
Located on Ramapo Valley Road key military highway for troops and supply units during the Revolutionary War this building served as General George Washington's headquarters on July 14, 1777 and as the Bergen County Court House in 1778 – 1779.
 
Erected 1961 by The Woman’s Club of Oakland.

This house was used as headquarters by Gen. George Washington on July 14 and 15, 1777 as the troops marched from Morristown, NJ to Smith's Clove, NY.
