Inscription. In 1886, seventeen-year-old John Adam Schreiber stoked the fire, wound the clock by climbing up and straddling the vault door, filled in for the cashier at lunch, and slept in the bank as the night watchman. He became the bank President in 1922. He and the bank survived two armed robberies and the Great Depression
