Claustro de San Francisco Javier
El centro de Tepotzotlán está coronado por dos auténticas joyas de la arquitectura novohispana: el templo y claustro de San Francisco Javier, obras maestras del estilo churrigueresco que se desarrolló en nuestro país en los siglos XVII y XVIII, hoy declaradas Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.
La presencia de los religiosos jesuitas fue primordial para el desarrollo cultural y artístico de Tepotzotlán. Los frailes llegaron a la región en el siglo XVI y se interesaron por estudiar la lengua, usos y costumbres de los naturales. Por ello, en 1580 fundaron la escuela de lenguas indigenas, cuatro años después una escuela para niños indigenas y en 1586 un colegio para novicios de su orden que recibió el nombre de colegio de San Francisco Javier, en honor al santo y evangelizador que colaboró con San Francisco de Loyola, fundador de la orden religlosa de la Compañia de Jesús.
El colegio se instaló en el Claustro de San Francisco Javier, que desde 1964 alberga al Museo de Arte Virreinal, uno de los más importantes de nuestro pais. El Claustro consta de dos plantas

En todos los corredores del Claustro se exponen pinturas de la época y en las celdas es posible admirar bellas piezas artisticas. Este edificio tiene acceso directo al templo de San Francisco Javier, de estilo barroco novohispano.
The Cloister of San Francisco Javier
The center of Tepotzotlán is crowned by two real gems of New Spain's architecture: the church and cloister of San Francisco Javier, masterpieces of the churrigueresco style that developed in our country in the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The presence of the Jesuit priests was paramount to the cultural and artistic development of Tepotzotlán. The monks arrived in the region in the XVIth century and were incerested in studying the language and customs of the natives. Therefore, in 1580 they founded the school of indigenous languages, four years later, a school for indigenous children and in 1586 a school for novices of their order which was named College of San Francisco

The school was installed in the Cloister of San Francisco Javier, which since 1964 houses the Museo de Arte Virreinal, one of the most important in our country. The Cloister consists of two floors and has three patios surrounded by corridors that allow entry to various rooms. If you enter through the main gate quite easily you reach the Patio de los Aljibes, followed by the patio where the kitchen and the pantry are located, finally there is the Patio de las Naranjos where you get to a huge orchard.
In all the corridors of the cloister, paintings of the era are exposed and in the cells you can admire beautiful artistic pieces. This building has a direct access to the church of San Francisco Javier, of a new world baroque style.
