The Present Location of the Lake Hubert Depot. . The depot had its birth in 1896, and was slated for demolition when the railroad discontinued service to the Lake Hubert region. It has been preserved through the cooperative efforts of Lake Hubert residents. Mr. Hugh McCaffrey, who ran the Lake Hubert Store, purchased it from the railroad for $1.00 in 1968, and a few weeks later that year was moved onto the present one-and-a-half acre plot and completely renovated through the assistance of area civic groups. The depot was originally located about 450 feet in a southeasterly direction from where it now stands. The land was donated to the Lake Hubert Conservation Association by Mrs. Emma E. Kletschka in memory of her late husband, Herbert Kletschka, the first president and one of the original founders of that organization. The station was built during the logging boom and, at that early period, was the only means of access in or out of the town. You relive an interesting time in the history of the area when you visit this site.
