Sur L'île aux Basques, on voit encore les vestiges de fourneaux construits par les Basques. Le Père Nouvel et ses néophytes papinachois se retirèrent sur l'île aux Basques, en 1666, pour se protéger contre les Iroquois.

At Ile-aux-Basques, there can still be seen the remains of furnaces built by the Basques. In 1666, to save their lives from the Iroquois, Father Nouvel and his Papinachois Indian converts took refuge on this island.
