1. The San Remo Marker
Designed by architect Emery Roth and completed in 1930, the San Remo was the first twin-towered residential skyscraper built on Central Park West. A graceful fusion of modern and traditional forms, the building is considered to be among Roth’s finest works. Its towers soar twenty-seven stories above the street; crowning each tower is a roman-style Corinthian temple topped by a twenty-two foot copper lantern. Italian Renaissance details in terra-cotta, metal and limestone embellish the façade. Similar details are carried into the building’s handsome lobbies, together with its twin-towered neighbors to the north and south, the San Remo anchors the magnificent Central Park West skyline.
