[English translation]

The son of Pierre Chouinard and Flavie Deschênes, Clément Chouinard was born on October 28, 1915. The second in a family of 12 children, he married Cécile Beaulieu in 1940 and was entrusted with the care of his parents-in-law the same year.

Father of two girls and nine boys, fishing was a big part of his life and he shared this passion with many of his children. Early in the spring, it was at Clément Chouinard's place that the fishermen got together to go for herring to feed the family and fatten the fields. In mid-June, herring are used for cod and halibut fishing. Shortly before his accidental death on April 24, 1990, he nostalgically described how one day he caught a halibut weighing about one hundred and forty kilograms off Sainte-Flavie.

Back on dry land, the daily catch was sold and the rest was smoked, salted, boiled or frozen as needed. It was not uncommon for Clément Chouinard

to distribute his catch surplus to the people of the village, especially the most unfortunate.

In addition to being a skilled fisherman and working on his land, Clément Chouinard was also a politician. Elected city councillor in 1948, he held the position of mayor from 1957 to 1979. The Flavian population remembers him as devoted, welcoming and generous.

The municipality pays homage to this man by naming this place in his honor.
