Located one block south at 123 Van Buren Street is the birthplace of the first bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, Bishop Jules B. Jeanmard. Born August 15, 1879, Jeanmard belonged to St. Bernard Church where he received baptism, confirmation, first holy communion, and served as an altar boy. He was consecrated as the first bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, LA on December 8, 1918 and served until his resignation on March 13, 1956. Bishop Jeanmard died on February 23, 1957.

de maison dici en direction du sud. Né le
15 août 1879, Jeanmard fut paroissien de l'Église
Saint Bernard où il fut baptisé et confirmé. Il y
reçut sa première communion et y fut également
enfant de choeur. Il devint le premier évérgue
du Diocèse de Lafayette le 8 décembre 1918,
jusqu'au moment de sa renonciation le 13 mars
1956. L'évêque Jeanmard décéda le 23 février 1957.
