1. Illinois Terminal Neon Sign Marker
Inscription.
This early neon was originally attached to the Central Terminal Building of the Illinois Terminal (IT) Railroad on Twelfth (now Tucker) Boulevard at Delmar in St. Louis, Missouri. The building opened in 1932 and housed the offices of the It as well as the station.

The Illinois Terminal was an electric interurban railway providing both freight and passenger service from downtown St. Louis to the points in Illinois shown on the map. Interurban trains delivered frequent and clean passenger service to many small towns overlooked by the steam railroads. The last IT passenger operations ended in 1958.

The sign restoration was coordinated by and funded through the Museum of Transportation Trolley Volunteers with gifts from many donors. Generous assistance in the recreation of the neon tubing and the hanging of the sign was provided by Plasti-Lite Signs of St. Louis, Missouri.
