Inscription.
William H. Daugherty lived in Titusville before founding the Daugherty Refinery in Petrolia, PA.

Amalie was created in 1903 when L. Sonneborn & Sons bought Daugherty Refinery. It was the first refiner of mineral oils in the United States.

In 1924, the Sonneborns bought the Franklin Creek Refinery in Franklin PA; building Amalie into a major industry source of pharmaceutical petrolatums (i.e petroleum jelly) and mineral oils.

Amalie was the first company to sell multi-grade motor oil (Imperial 10W30) in 1953.

Amalie''s current slogan "Better than it has to be... Since 1903"

In the 1960s the Sonneborns sold Amalie to Witco Chemical.

In 1996 Amalie was sold to Sun Oil and again in 1997 to the Barkett Family in Tampa Bay, Florida.

It is the largest privately held independent blender of motor oils and industrial lubricants in North America.
