Inscription. The town had a central square and a "diamond" pattern common to many newly founded Pennsylvania towns. Stakes in the ground identified boundaries of lots, streets, and alleys. Barnabas Hughes gave them names they still carry—Market Street, High Street, Rose Alley, Cherry Alley, and Peach Alley.
