1. Spat, Miniature Skipjack Marker
Inscription.
A fairly simple and inexpensive boat to build, the skipjack became a popular workboat in the 1890s. Built in 1969, this miniature skipjack was a sturdy daysailer particularly suited for Chesapeake Bay waters.

Formula for designing a skipjack
Find the length on deck
Greatest beam = 1/3 length on deck
Length of mast = length on deck + greatest beam
Length of boom = length on deck
Length of bowsprit = greatest beam
Length of centerboard = 1/3 length on deck
Mast rakes about 75 degrees to the load waterline
Masthead lies directly above point of greatest beam

Built: Curtis Applegarth, Oxford, Maryland, 1969.
Length: 23 ft, 3 in (7 m)
Beam: 6 ft, 6 in (2 m)
Draft: 1 ft, 6 in (.49 m)
