(1818-1897)
Nació en la ciudad de México, Poeta y Político liberal, anticlerical y populista, fue un personaje importante de la política de nuestro país, en la que participó activamente, fue Ministro de Hacienda y colaboró en la elaboración de las "Leyes de Reforma", es famoso por su frase:
"Los Valientes no asesinan"
Dicha en defensa del presidente Benito Juárez, ante la inminente amenaza de ser asesinado en su presencia, por sus propios oficiales, cumpliendo las órdenes del conservador Filemón Bravo en Guadalajara.
Su obra poética es vasta, en sus poemas "Los san Lunes de Fidel" y "Musa Callejera" recrea en cuadros costumbristas la vida popular de nuestra ciudad en aquella época.

Born in Mexico City, he was both poet and a Liberal politician with anticlerical and populist views. He was an important character in our country's politics, in which he participated actively. As Minister of Finance he collaborated in the preparation of the Reform Laws and is famous for the phrase:
